about

I dedicate this song Louisiana to my oldest brother who is featured on the cover with a photo that was taken when he was younger living in Baton Rouge. Time passes by without waiting for anyone. There comes a point where you stop and wonder about how you got to where you are now in life. And if it’s not the place where you thought you’d be then you begin to yearn for something more significant even if it comes from your past. Perhaps it’s because when you’re young, things are more impressionable. Perhaps it’s because as a child, I really felt a unique kinship towards Louisiana. Whatever the case, I’ll never forget those rides with my brother in his blue pick-up truck on those long and dark highways, the poster of the rock band Kiss on his wall, the stereo blasting Blondie’s Call Me which I found even then strangely erotic for some reason perhaps because of the way Deborah Harry looked on the album cover and many other fragments of memories which are basically expressed in the lyrics of the song. It was a brief stay for me that made a long-lasting impression. The filmmaker Fellini once said similarly that holding something magical in your mind can be ruined by actually experiencing it firsthand. For that reason like him I’d rather be now a dreamer and leave it stored away as a distant memory in my heart where I can go to from time to time and find some kind of sanctuary.

lyrics

Lyrics:

This is the place where I call home where I belong
I see it now I see a flash I get pulled in
To a room with a poster made of a kiss
I see the vinyls and alcohol out on the floor
I wanna hear the stereo I wanna play
I ride around on a bike I feel the air
Louisiana I'm coming back for you
Oh Louisiana why did I ever leave you
I see this place as my home don't go away
I wanna lay on the floor and dream away
I see the girls coming by flirting away
You take them to your room oh dream away
Louisiana I'm coming back for you
Oh Louisiana I want you back for me
This is the place where I belong where I call home
I see a flash I see it now I get pulled in
On the floor I wanna play I wanna hear
I feel the air I see the ol' highway
Louisiana I'm coming back to you
Oh Louisiana why did I ever leave you
I call this home where I belong I see a flash
I call this home where I belong I see a flash
I call this home where I belong I see a flash
I call this home...
