What is behind the stars? What dark invincible sphere lies there? Will the gods of time and perception be found there? Or is it infinite darkness roaming all around putting your soul at ease? A dark death floating in the winds? A pull of energy giving you some sense of direction. Lost in the sky, the skies of heaven? Alone but yet not so... on that road less traveled. What is behind the body of dark mass? Where will it all end when it's done? Feed me the tree of life The branches that burn with the sun. The shades that wail towards the ground. The insects that cry in the holes. The roots beneath the surface... underneath the dirt... feed me... your disillusions, your anger your fears, your regrets All resentments. All grievance. Feed me. Take me for all I am. I'll be your biggest sensation. Your grandest failure. Everything you loved and feared. I'll be the one to take you higher. Hear the wind blow against the sand. Feel your place at hand... with just one take. I am here... by your side. I am here.

Say a Prayer 03:23
Strange how it all began Strange it has ended From a moment captured by this To pretend is all we can do Say a prayer, in your heart Even if it doesn't make sense Say a prayer, in your heart It's the language you have taught me Say a prayer...strange. Say a prayer, in your heart Here we are stuck inside of us Say a prayer, in your heart It'll be a way to connect Say a prayer, in your heart Even if it doesn't make sense Say a prayer, in your heart It's the language you have taught me Strange how it all began Strange it has ended Strange how it all began Strange it has ended Say a prayer...strange. Strange how it all began Strange it has ended From a moment captured by this To pretend is all we can do Say a prayer, in your heart Even if it doesn't make sense Say a prayer, in your heart It's the language you have taught me Say a prayer...strange.

She was used to the sun Her laughter gave you joy In her hands, you belonged Till November came along Oh black rose will you sing? Black rose My heart is in your hands Don't go say you're alone When she was full of love Oh she knew all along Till November came around Oh black rose will you sing? Black rose For the heart beats no more She was left behind How the years went by She whispered her desires Till November took her down Oh black rose why don't you sing? Black rose You don't know how it feels.

"I only want you to love you once said I only want you to... you kept repeating There's no ground to stand on playing the role of the forgiven A type of emotion blurred by the liquid that runs through your veins In our eyes, you have fallen from grace No mother for you, no mother for us now The thought of distrust...lonely... We have endured The core of the mess that remains To forgive, it's a complex type of love that allows us to breathe the same air I only want you to love me You once said I only want you to... While you lose yourself The memories wander away You're losing sight of yourself You're becoming a shadow of yourself in old age I only want you to love me you once said I only want you to... Watching you walking across the room pleading... I only want you to love me I only want you to... There's no ground The forgiven Emotion blurred In our eyes No mother for us No mother To forgive To breathe Lose yourself...lose yourself I only want you to love me Love me I only want you to..."

Ashes 02:50
If I believed then I must have seen There was no choice No choice to turn I saw the light that was in her eyes The soul that lives That's still there I give these ashes back to the earth To nourish lands and skies above I give these ashes back to earth To live and breathe Back to the earth There was no choice no where else to turn Clouds that drained their last tears Let's not wait and then repeat The same mistakes The same mistakes I give these ashes back to the earth To nourish lands and skies above I give these ashes back to earth To live and breathe To live again I give to you her flesh to burn Her complete silence For she is gone I will drink all of mother's milk To Nourish me To let me breathe I will keep my mother's love, back on earth For she is gone I will keep my mother's love, back on earth For she is gone

My mother's passing has greatly affected me in ways that is difficult to explain simply in words. It was a pivotal moment in my life. To see her health decline month after month throughout the years should've prepared me for what was to come. But honestly nothing can truly prepare you for something like that. I was very lucky to be able to have her on film for my experimental short film Mother's Milk which was done right before her health seriously got worse.
Now I have this album, inspired by my first true loss in life, that has served me both as cathartic and life saving. I haven't recorded anything new since late 2015 and honestly, I wasn't planning to for a while. But I had to make this record and I made it for me. I needed to try to make sense of what just happened and I did it with the best intentions.
This is a concept album made up of experimental spoken word pieces along with some actual songs. There are also some electronic instrumental tracks thrown in for good measure. There's a futuristic otherworldly sound to some of the tracks which I hope to fully encompass the notion that I believe about death which is that it's another phase of our existence. I believe we are a source of energy, which I guess we call the soul, that's trapped inside of our bodies and when we die, that energy is set free. Where to exactly? Well, that's the mystery. When I found my mother in the early morning hours already expired, she had this expression of wonder on her face. I will carry that with me for the rest of my life. I would love to know what she saw exactly.
I named this recording project Involution because I believe it fits the overall theme the material carries and the arrangements that are on most of the tracks could be best described as minimalism.

Dedication to my mother:

I can't believe you're no longer here with me.
I miss you.
I sincerely do.
My heart is broken.

I can't explain where I've been when you were around, much less so where I'll be now that you're gone.
But I'm beginning to understand, at least, where you've been. You have been a strong woman and I applaud you.

And thank you, for always showing your unconditional love and support that a mother should always give to her children.

I love you.

Praise for Involution:

"This a unique artistic expression of dealing with grief and the soul searching questions that experience raises. It’s a difficult and emotive subject handled with great sensitivity and emotional honesty, much to his credit. He has developed a musical oeuvre that is very individual, and the eclectic nature of the music is held together cohesively by the central theme of the album. It’s essentially a work of art that will move anyone who hears it and challenges the listener as all good art should do." - TheFaulknerReview

"This release has a unique experimental twist, blurring the lines between glitchy electronic experiments and haunting alt/pop vibes. The record features 10 songs, which are really well produced. The aesthetics of the album are great, but there’s something about it that really transcends the quality of the sound itself. The songwriting is daring and intuitive, and M. Del Carpio’s voice is silky and energetic at the same time. The vocal tone fits perfectly within the mix." - TheBandCampDiaries

"Involution is an experimentally creative collection of tracks composed by Martin Del Carpio during a time of extreme human sadness and loss. It’s a conceptual project with a definitive series of threads throughout, but even with that – each piece is unique and unpredictable in its own way." - Stereo Stickman

"Truly unique stuff from experimental artist Martin Del Carpio…not all that often that you run into a record that expands through this much terrain, both in sound and depth of the content within. If you read through the write-up on the Involution album, you’ll discover that the music upon it was developed as a form of catharsis after the passing of Martin’s mother, which he describes as his ‘first true loss in life.’ There’s really no mistaking that for anything else other than tragic…you can feel the weight of that emotion in that statement and understand just how much this moment in time has affected him. Like many of you out there, Martin turned to music in his ultimate time of need and immersed himself in the creative process to help deal with the intense situations of the ‘real life’ surrounding him; and also like many of you have experienced, quite often some of our best art is born out of tragedy & turmoil. Bottom line is, he’s found a way to both honor the memory of his mother with an album dedicated to her and a way forward…there’s never complete closure when it comes to this particular scenario, but music & art have the soul soothing ability to make it possible to carry on through the most difficult times. Within an instrumental & spoken-word framework, Involution takes you on an emotional trip." - SleepingBagStudios

"In his latest ten-track album ‘Involution’, the highly gifted and majestic Martin Del Carpio showcases to us just why he is the name to talk about with beautiful dynamics, ear-pleasing tones and atmospheres that will keep with you for weeks to come. With this terrific album released, we are sure to hear more great things from this exciting and simply magical artist known as, Martin Del Carpio. This one is for the playlists." - SOUNDOFNOW

"A collection of ten tracks that delve into the heart of human emotion, ‘Involution’ is an organic release that bends and more wherever it sees fit. There is no linear vision or pre-planned destination, making it a sprawling, wonderfully natural release that you can truly lose yourself in. It’s a delicate balance that serves to wonderfully honour the memory of his mother, while also hinting at a path forward, combining smooth spiritual sounds with emotional lyrics to perfect its presentation." - Broken 8 Records
